Catching up

Shirt: Thrifted
Sweater: Urban Outfitters
Purse: Fredflare.com
Shoes: Dr. Martens
Hat: Urban Outfitters

This is an outfit I wore on Christmas Eve. However I hadn't had time to put it on the blog. I had a wonderful Christmas. How was yours? I got some nice goodies. I just got back from New York today. A summary will be posted soon with pictures!

Tomorrow I'm going to color and cut my hair. I really hate my hair right now, but I am trying to grow it out. Sigh. I don't know what to do with it. Hopefully it will look better in upcoming posts. Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year's Eve!

melodies for winter nights and days in bed

Of course my immune system decides to allow the rhinovirus to attack my system right at the beginning of my break, setting the standards for the rest of my break. For the past few days I have been cooped up in my bed watching Bones and feeling miserable. My body is very selective on when it gets sick. Figures. Anyways I hope all symptoms disappear in the coming days for the holidays! Yes I am very excited for Christmas and the wonder that comes along with it. Hot chocolate, stockings, winter freeze, Christmas carols.

Please enjoy this mix of calming songs that  I recently made on 8tracks.

Etsy Wishlist

Searching around Etsy, I found some lovely stores (with the help of Ellana.) I have $75 of birthday money. Which should I buy?

Interesting Music / Videos (new music)

Spoon - You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb

Still trying to decide if I like the band, but I am absolutely fascinated with this video. So interesting.

CocoRosie - Lemonade

Ellana showed me this video yesterday and it's so cool. I love the song. Unlike anything I've heard before.

Foals - Blue Blood

A new band I found. They are "math rock" which I find interesting.

Rainy days

Block sweater: Thrift in Savannah
Maroon sweater: gift
Skirt: Stradivarius
Boots: Store in Colorado
Purse: Fredflare.com
Necklace: Aldo Accessories

Sunday was a chilly, rainy day, so I suited up. Nice and warm for a relaxing day at home. Today started a completely dreadful week that I am just barely going to get through. The week before break is always packed with projects, homework, and tests. And I am just wanting to watch Bones and sit in bed (like I'm doing right now!) Which will make me procrastinate on my work and.... I really should be doing work right now, but my laziness has taken over. Hopefully I can get through this week.

On a better note, I have just received an addition to my wardrobe that I am extremely excited about! I'm sure it will soon be revealed in an upcoming outfit post.

Tomorrow's Friday. I'm very excited. Mt family (minus my dad) went out to dinner tonight, so of course I dressed up. I had a very nice dinner. (French onion soup and mango chicken sandwich! Yum.) Now I am in my pajamas, watching Bones, which by the way is my new obsession. I've been watching it on Netflix any time I have free time.

I hope you are all dealing with the cold weather better than I am! (Don't have many pants... Hard to find good-fitting jeans for my body shape.)

Happy birthday to me! Remember this date: 11/22. One day it will be a national holiday. ;)

I will hopefully be posting more often with clearer photos, for I am now the proud owner of a Canon Rebel xsi! I am very happy and very thankful to my parents! I didn't have much time to figure the camera out before I needed to shoot some outfit photos. I will figure out by the next outfit post. My mom was a very confused photographer, but a wonderful model! (As you can see!) She's also a great chef. And my birthday dinner (consisting of my favorites: turkey burger sliders, potatoes, and caesar salad) was to die for! (Or to be born for. Harharhar.) We took a break for presents, phone calls, and just to let our stomachs rest, before we sat down to eat the beautiful cupcakes.

Thank you to all my family for their love and birthday wishes! Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving (if I don't post before then.)

Fall inspiration

I've been feeling creative recently so I've been making collages. I just made this one, just magazine clippings. I'm not happy with how it got scanned in, but hopefully you like it.

Results

I'm still perfecting it (the makeup) and I hope to go a little darker in the future. Also can you tell the difference in my hair? I dyed it darker a few weeks ago but it's a demi permanent dye so it's already lightening! Bummer.

Catty

[from Skins]

I'm going to attempt to do my make up like that. I will show the results (but only if they're good!). Do you have any tips for me? By the way the image is from my current favorite TV show, Skins. It's a British show. I find the character pictured above (Effy) to be beyond cool. Hahaha. She has the coolest clothes.

New Music Part II

1. Special Others
This Japanese band is so jazzy and has such a cool sound. Simply amazing. Hard to find their albums, but I can give you a link if you like them.

2. Meiko
Not a new band, but rediscovered. A nice voice, a folk sound. I like a few of her very gentle songs like this one.

3. Buke and Gass
They just released a new album. Ah-mazing. This is actually called Revel in Contempt. My favorite is Naked Cities.

New Music Part I

Kay so I've been on this really cool music site called last.fm (if you don't have one you should get one. You can track what you listen to.) for a while and people on there love to give out recommendations. So I thought I would share some of the new bands I have found. I might continue to do this.

1. Broken Bells
If you like the Shins, you should check it out. James Mercer from the Shins sings in Broken Bells as well. It's very different from the Shins, not quite as dreamy. I like it though, it's still got the charm.

2. Simian Mobile Disco
I'm not usually into the techno/electronica music. But I enjoy this.

I'm unsure if I want to buy the Fever Ray and Florence + the Machine albums, so if anyone wants to send me a CD ;)

Combative Hearts

Following Ellana's lead, I thought I would talk about an artist. In my photography class we took a bunch of notes on the photomontage and history of it. The two people we talked a lot about were John Heartfield and Hannah Hoch. Both Germans, both in the Dada movement. Above are the photos of John Heartfield. Kind of gruesome but I find them really interesting. As you can see he was protesting the Nazis and Hitler.

By the way, I found it very hard to find images online. Same with Hannah Hoch... How weird.

You should also check out Hannah Hoch's photos. Like I said, it's difficult to find online. I really like "The Argument" and "The Flight." Interesting enough, they are both about the abusive relationship she had with fellow Dadaist Raoul Hausmann. Below is one of her later works that I like as well, "Grotesque."
